LEROY S. JOHNSON, age 50, of Jacksonville, passed awayFebruary 7, 2014 at his home. He was born on October 11, 1963 in California. He was the son of the late Albert Johnson Sr., and Myrli Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a United StatesNavy Veteran of twelve years and worked for Arkansas Game and Fish for six years.

He is preceded in death by his father, Albert Johnson Sr. Survivors include his mother Myrli Johnson, brother, Albert Johnson Jr, sister, Marguerite Umholtz, one nephew, five nieces and eight grandnieces and two grand nephews.

JOHN W. McELYEA, 74, of North Little Rock, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014. He was born September 13, 1939 in Flint, Michigan to Lester and Margaret Lillard. John served in the U.S. Marine Corp. One of his favorite things was to go fishing with his wife, before her passing. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his son Glen McElyea and wife Teressa of Quitman,Arkansas; grandchildren, Chad McElyea of Knoxville, Tennessee; Courtney McElyea and Bailey McElyea both of Quitman; and great-granddaughter Gracie LeAnn New of Quitman, two brothers, David McElyea of Scott and Bob McElyea of South Carolina; sister-in-law Edie Drake of North Little Rock and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wanda McElyea and son, Johnny McElyea.

C.O. TITTLE, age 93, departed his earthly life on Saturday, February 8, 2014. He and his wife of 72 years, Beatrice Harvill Tittle, were fortunate to live in their own home together until his death. In addition to his wife, Mr. Tittle is survived byhis daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James Barrett, his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jason and Amber Barrett and three wonderful grandchildren, Kathryn (Katy) Barrett, Adley Barham and Adison Barham all of Maumelle and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Tittle was born in 1920 in Saline County. He was the first son of the late Omar and Ethel Ewell Tittle and was the last living member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his brother, Duffie Tittle; his five sisters, Dorothy Turbyfill, Lois Bunt, Ruby McClamrock, Melba Burton and Daphne Driggers.

Mr. Tittle served in the Army during World War II and returned to Benton, Arkansas to work at Reynolds Metal Company for 32 years as a supervisor in production. He retired in 1982 when he accepted the job as full-time grandfather, father and husband.Once his grandson was born, he became Pop to everyone in the family and enjoyed traveling with Bea and his family or friends, tending and harvesting his vegetable garden, watching basketball and reading. He was a life-long Baptist and was an active member of Maumelle First Baptist Church until his health prevented attending, but remained interested and always looked forward to visits from church members. Mr. Tittle will be remembered as a generous and kind man with a big heart and a genuine love of God and family.

A service to honor his life will be at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 2 p.m. with visitation at 1:30 p.m. followed by a private family burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Kitchen Fund at Maumelle First Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, to honor his lifelong love of children. DALARK - Helen Leamons Green, age 86, of Dalark died Saturday. She was born Feb. 25, 1927, the daughter of Scott and Ethel Fite Leamons. She retired from the Wal-Mart Pharmacy Department and was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Henry Green.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Pam) Green of Dalark, Paul Green of Calhoun, Ga., Arthur (Kim) Green of Ocala, Fla.; one daughter, Judy (Gary) Lewis of Dalark; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

DES ARC - Frances Marie Fisher, 71, of Des Arc died Saturday at her home. She was born Oct. 14, 1942 in St. Louis, Mo. to Orville and Amie (Jackson) Owens. She was born June 27, 1921 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of Harold Dwayne Knox and Emma Louise Moore Knox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay Jones, in 2004 and a sister, Martha Louise Elam. FORDYCE - The final school bell rang and Betty Jo Holt ofFordyce joined her Lord and Savior on the Sabbath Day, February 9, 2014. Born in Altheimer, Ark. on Jan. 8, 1925, she was an incredible 89 years old. She was a professional educator who earned her Bachelor of Science in Math at Arkansas State Teachers College, now UCA, and received her Masters of Science in Math at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. She taught 24 years on the high school level and 8 years on the college level. She worked at Hampton, Fordyce and Rison High Schools and Henderson State University and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. She later substituted at Kingsland and Fordyce. She was a member and past state vice-president of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a lecturer for many years with Weight Watchers. In 1967, she opened the 4-Dice Restaurant and Station and was active in management till the end. She dearly loved her family, friends and her church. She was married July 4, 1942 to Edward Pershing Holt who was a new member of the Army-Air Corps. His pre and wartime military career required Betty to travel all over the U.S.During this period she gave birth to a special needs son, John Edward Holt. With complete approval and encouragement from her husband she continued to pursue her education. She had two more boys, George Cater and Paul Louis Holt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John Dee and Emily Sophronia Kauffman Carter; sister, Reba Maunee Carter Lybrand (Jack); brother, Paul Theron Carter; husband, Edward Pershing Holt; and son, John Edward Holt. Left to celebrate her life are sons, George Carter Holt (Kris) of Kingsland, and Paul Louis Holt, (Kaye) of Fordyce; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nephew, Joe Dee Lybrand (Sylvia) of Heber Springs and a host of friends, medical professionals, and former students, too many to name and thank.

SEARCY - Freddie “Poochie” Robertson, of Searcy, passed away Feb. 6, 2014. He was born Oct. 3,1945 to parents, Merl and Donnie Hale Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carrol Robertson and Roger Robertson, all of Kensett.

He leaves behind one sister, Peggy Vaughn of West Point; his wife of 32 years, Donna Robertson of Searcy; one daughter, Delores Gwatney of Vilonia; one son, Michael Robertson of McRae; two stepsons, John Bolding of Jonesboro and Mark Bolding of Scranton; one granddaughter; five grandsons; cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Rachel A. Myers, 85, a long-time fixture inArkansas education, died February 8, 2014 at her home near Orlando, Florida after a long bout with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Mrs. Myers was the widow of the Reverend Dr. Lloyd H.Myers, who was pastor of Little Rock’s Rose of Sharon Baptist Church and then at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church in North Little Rock. She was a first grade teacher, principal of Ish and Forest Park Elementary Schools, administrator and, finally, assistant superintendent of Little Rock Public Schools, retiring in 1990 after 30 years with the district. Mrs. Myers also trained educators in Germany and Israel in innovative methodologies to engage parents and teachers in early childhood education.

A graduate of Philander Smith College, where she met her husband, Mrs. Myers was at one time president of the college’s national alumni association. She had also been president of the Little Rock Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, where she was a member since 1949. In 1965, Mrs. Myers earned a Master’s Degree in elementary education administration from the University of Arkansas.

Mrs. Myers is survived by her sons, Lloyd A. Myers (Jill) and John B. Myers (Jamie) of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Deborah Mathis (Joe Garcia) of Washington, D.C., and Sandra A. Hill (Anderson) of Windermere, Fla.; brothers, Robert Helm of Arkadelphia, Ark., and Carl Helm of Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Owilda Hill of Texarkana, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a legion of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Myers will be Saturday, February 15, 2014, 1 p.m., at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, 217 N. Hazel Street, North Little Rock. LEE COUNTY, Ga. - Karen Alanna Shirley Goolsby, 43, of LeeCounty, Ga., went to be with her Lord on February 7, 2014 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Her time on this earth was short but this is not her true home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Sherwood Baptist Church Chapel. Dr. Glen L. Shultz and Rev. Johnny White will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.

A native of North Little Rock, Ark., she moved to Georgia at the age of two. She grew up in Lee County, Ga., graduated from Lee County High School in 1988 and received her Associates Degree from Darton State College. She was a member of Thundering Springs Baptist Church but was attending Sherwood Baptist Church where she was a member of the Journey Sunday School Class. Karen worked at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital as a Medical Technologist for 22 years. She was AMT certified. Karen fought a short but courageous battle with brain cancer.

Survivors include her daughter, Leigha Katherine Goolsby, her parents, Bobby and Dorothy Shirley and the love of her life, her fiancée, Kevin Kyle Bush all of Lee County, Ga. Even though Karen was an only child, she had many Arkansas relatives, special friends in her Sunday School Class, special adopted Redbone family, and Phoebe family in the lab. She will always be remembered as a hard and dedicated worker in the lab.

Karen was preceded in death by her fraternal grandparent, Bonnie Wiggins, maternal grandparents, Mary and Lexter Thomas, and special aunt Diane (Peachie) Tew.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m., one hour before the service in the atrium at Sherwood Baptist Church.

HENRIETTA, Mo. - Kenneth “Kenny” Daniel, 57, of Henrietta, Mo., passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014. Celebration of life party is pending. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Sandra. Kenny was born July 4, 1956, in Fresno, Calif., the son of Gilbert and Clara Chapman Daniel.
