Support group aids teen victims of date violence

LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is launching a support group for teenage victims of dating violence.

The medical school said Monday that the group is for teens 16 and older who have experienced violence while on a date. The group meets at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays at UAMS' Psychiatric Research Institute.

The group is open to teen victims of emotional, physical or sexual violence by a date, partner or spouse. The hour-long sessions are free, but participants must call in advance.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. UAMS is taking part in a national effort to draw attention to the abuse of teens and young adults in relationships.

Those who would like to attend or who want more information may call Women’s Mental Health Program clinical therapist Lori Graham at (501) 526-8433 or email LKGraham@uams.edu.
