A Cave City man died Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 67 in White County after his disabled pickup was hit by an another vehicle, ejecting him from the truck.

It happened about 3:10 p.m. in the southbound lanes just north of Searcy.

Arkansas State Police say 55-year-old Scotty L. Downs was in his stopped 1998 Ford Ranger after it became disabled while partially blocking the inside, southbound lane.

According to a preliminary report, a southbound Ford F-150 hit the right rear of the Ranger, sending both vehicles into a counterclockwise spin and ejecting Downs. He died at the scene.

The F-150 collided with the trailer of a southbound Kenworth truck. Neither of those drivers was injured.

The death marked the 38th fatality in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year.
