New TV ad targets Cotton on farm bill, Medicare

A national political action committee is launching a television ad around Arkansas targeting Republican Senate hopeful Tom Cotton on Medicare and the farm bill, two issues Democrats believe will be key in Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor's re-election fight.

Patriot Majority USA announced Wednesday that it was spending about $300,000 to air the 30-second spot in Arkansas. The ad criticized Cotton for voting against the farm bill and for supporting a budget plan that would gradually raise the eligibility age for Medicare for future recipients.

Cotton is a freshman congressman representing south Arkansas who announced in August that he would challenge Pryor. Pryor was first elected to the Senate in 2002 and was re-elected in 2008.

Cotton's campaign derided the ad as "Washington-style" attacks.
