Worker killed at Mississippi County steel plant

HICKMAN — Authorities say an employee at a Nucor Steel plant has died in a train accident at the steel company's facility in Mississippi County.

The Mississippi County sheriff's office said 48-year-old Thomas Dazey was riding in a train car early Tuesday when the train derailed. Authorities say Dazey suffered a fatal head injury when he got caught between his train and another train.

The Courier News reported that Dazey was pronounced dead at the scene by Mississippi County Coroner Mike Godsey.

Nucor Steel Arkansas Vice President and General Manager Sam Commella said mill operations were suspended immediately after the derailment. Commella said the company is working with local, state and federal authorities to determine what caused the accident.

Officials said Dazey had worked at Nucor for 18 years.
