Variety Show

SULPHUR ROCK — Sulphur Rock Magnet School will present a variety show at 6 p.m. at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. The event, which has been rescheduled, will include performances by students, an art exhibit of students’ work and two raffles to raise money to buy technology equipment for the school. AARP Smart Driver Course

SEARCY — The PrimesTimes of White County Medical Center will host an AARP Smart Driver Course from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Hubach Center. African-American Legislators Exhibit

POWHATAN — Arkansas African-American Legislators, 1868-1893, a free traveling exhibit produced by the Arkansas History Commission and the Black History Commission of Arkansas, will continue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 13-15 at Powhatan Historic State Park, 4414 Arkansas 25. The Dining Room

Baltimore Consort Performance

SEARCY — Harding University’s Concert Lyceum Series will continue with the Baltimore Consort at 7 p.m. in the Administration Auditorium. The Baltimore Consort was originally founded in 1980 and, through instrumental music, explores early music from England, Scotland, France, Italy and Spain. The group’s program, titled Cupid’s Cabinet, will feature love songs of the British Isles, France, Spain and the New World. Tickets will be sold for $3 at the door.

Father-Daughter Banquet

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Sertoma Club’s fourth annual Father-Daughter Banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville Community Center. Valentine Pageant

SALEM — The Zeta Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will conduct its annual Valentine Pageant on Friday at Salem High School prior to the Salem-Viola basketball game. The pageant will start at 4:30 p.m. The Little Miss and Little Mr. contestants for kindergarten through the sixth grade will be at Salem Elementary School. Candidates for Mr. and Miss Valentine in grades seven through 12 will be at Salem High School. Voting was held earlier in the week. All proceeds from the pageant will go to Beta Sigma Phi for community-service projects.

Chili and Pie Supper

HEBER SPRINGS — The Associated Women for Harding will host a Chili and Pie Supper at 6 p.m. in the Heber Springs High School Cafeteria. Entertainment will be provided by The Good News Singers from Harding University, followed by silent and live auctions. All proceeds will help fund need-based scholarships. The public is invited. Davidsonville Town Site Tour

POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park, on Arkansas 166 near Pocahontas, will offer a free guided tour of the Davidsonville Town Site from 2-3 p.m. The town, established in 1815, was the earliest platted town in Arkansas and the home of the first post office, the first land office and the first courthouse in the state. Interesting details of the town will be discussed. Displays of artifacts from the town will be available at the Visitor Center before and after the tour, as well as exhibit panels that show 3-D images of what the town would have looked like during its lifetime. The park’s hiking trails and historic cemeteries can also be explored. Pets are welcome on the tour but must be on a leash. Children younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult. SAME Café

SEARCY — The SAME Café will be open from 4-5:30 p.m. at the West Side Church of Christ, 709 W. Arch St. The SAME Café is open the first and third Saturdays of the month to anyone in the community who would like a free warm meal.

Chili Supper

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The semiannual Chili Supper, provided by the United Methodist Men, will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church, at the intersection of Otter and Keno drives. Giving Tree Grants Submission Deadline

SEARCY— The deadline is Saturday for nonprofits in White County to submit applications for Giving Tree Grants through the White County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation. Any IRS 501(c)(3) public charity, public school, government agency or hospital in White County is eligible to apply. Other applicants may be considered if the project has a clear charitable purpose for public benefit. Grants are not made to individuals. Applications will be reviewed by a grant-making committee from the White County Community Foundation. TEAS V Test Dates

Choral Society Spring Concert

NCA District Fair Scholarship

The North Central Arkansas District Fair offers the Billy Ray Nix Memorial Scholarship and the NCA District Fair scholarship to graduating seniors in the seven-county district fair area. Students in Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Sharp, Stone and Van Buren counties who have participated in county, district or state fairs and meet the scholarship criteria are eligible to apply. Scholarship and Youth Tour

JACKSONVILLE — First Electric Cooperative is accepting applications for its scholarship program and the 2014 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. High school seniors whose parents or guardians are First Electric members may apply for one of five $2,000 scholarships that the cooperative awards each year. To be eligible for the scholarships, which are funded through Operation Round-Up, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average through their senior year of high school and be a full-time student at an accredit­ed institute of higher learning in Arkansas. High school juniors whose parents or guardians are First Electric members may apply for the Youth Tour, an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 14-19. An annual art competition juried by an external artist, this show gives Lyon College students a chance to compete for monetary awards.

White County GOP Filing Period

SEARCY — The White County Republican Committee announced that filing for county and township offices will begin at noon Feb. 24 and end at noon March 3. Candidates need to file at 719 W. Beebe Capps (in the ReMax office complex), from 9-11 a.m. and from noon to 5 p.m., or by appointment. A member of the local Republican Party will be present to accept candidate filing fees and provide appropriate forms. After filing with the county Republican Party, candidates must provide written evidence of filing-fee payment and additional paperwork to the White County clerk before noon March 3. FilmFest Poster Unveiling, Schedule Release

BATESVILLE — The Ozark Foothills FilmFest will hold its annual Poster Unveiling and Schedule Release at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Batesville Area Arts Council Gallery, 246 E. Juried Art Exhibit

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council is accepting submissions through March 1 for its second annual National Juried Exhibition. The exhibition is open to all artists 18 and older who work in 2D media. Artists may submit up to three images with an entry fee of $25 ($20 for BAAC members). Two additional images may be submitted for $5 each. The juror for the exhibition will be Jennifer Rospert, assistant professor of drawing at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Lyon College Chorale Concert

LITTLE ROCK — The Lyon College Concert Chorale of Batesville will join the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for two performances of Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem at 8 p.m. March 1 and at 3 p.m. March 2 at Robinson Center Music Hall in Little Rock. Cleanup and Hazardous Waste Round-Up

CABOT — Cabot Cleanup and Hazardous Waste Round-Up 2014 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon March 22. This citywide cleanup is for civic and service organizations, church and youth groups, school groups and clubs, Scout groups, individuals, families, neighborhoods and businesses. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at Cabot Junior High-South on Panther Trail and check in at the registration canopies, then will be assigned routes. Orange safety vests and garbage bags will be provided. Participants are asked to bring work gloves. At noon, volunteers will meet back at the Panther Trail parking lot for free food and drinks.
