I-630 work, night lane closures set in Little Rock

Highway officials plan overnight lane closures on Interstate 630 next week in Little Rock.

Crews conducting pavement testing will create alternating lane closures in the eastbound and westbound lanes and shoulders between the eastern ramps at the Baptist Health Medical Center overpass and the University Avenue overpass bridge, the state Highway and Transportation Department said Friday.

Crews will alternate the closures to keep one or two lanes open in each direction during the testing period, from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, and if testing hasn't been finished, also from 7 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, the department said.

In addition, a separate Highway Department news release states that the southwest loop ramp will be closed Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting, in order to replace a sign above the ramp. Traffic needing to access the ramp will be rerouted north to the overpass on Shackleford Road to Financial Centre Parkway or along I-430 north to I-630.

Crews will also be re-striping pavement on throughout the entire interchange from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. that same day, which will require a closure of the certain, unidentified lanes. The work will require "short lane closures" according to officials.

Traffic will be alerted with reflective cones, message boards and arrow boards, highway officials said.

The testing is being done to prepare for widening I-630 between Baptist and University Avenue.
