Names released in Helena-West Helena officer-involved shooting

Authorities have released the names of the police officer and two suspects wounded in a Thursday afternoon drug raid in Helena-West Helena.

According to a statement from Arkansas State Police, Helena police officer Matthew Jarrett was shot when authorities attempted to execute a residential search warrant at two addresses, 612 and 614 W. Cleburne St., at 5:18 p.m. Thursday. Police were “met with gunfire” by two men — David and Charlie Randle — when they entered 614 W. Cleburne St., according to state police spokesman Bill Sadler.

The two Randles, whose ages were not provided by authorities, were also wounded in the shooting.

Jarrett was transported to a Memphis hospital where he is in stable condition, according to the release. David Randle was treated and released from an unknown medical facility, while Charlie Randle is in critical condition, according to authorities.

State police special agents are investigating the shooting.
