Agents seize 800 bags of heroin in Vermont

RUTLAND, Vt. — Authorities say they have seized of heroin from a man who traveled to Rutland, Vt., by train.

An affidavit from a federal agent says that members of the FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration were waiting at the Amtrak station on Wednesday night when Charncey Merrick arrived.

The Rutland Herald reports that after he got off the train agents searched his backpack and found 800 bags of heroin.

The court records did not say where Merrick lives.

Authorities say he told them that he had traveled to Rutland two other times to sell heroin.

It was not immediately known if Merrick was being represented by an attorney.

Federal prosecutors have requested that he be held until trial. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Wednesday.
