Speakers cover bases for all growing things

Here are speakers scheduled to appear in the Little Rock Statehouse Convention Center’s Wally Allen Ballroom during the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show.

FRIDAY 10:30-11:30 a.m., “Finishing Touches: Details in Garden Design,” C. Colston Burrell 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m., “The Art of Perennial Combinations,” Burrell 1-2 p.m., “Taming the Wild: Arkansas Natives Come Home,” Lissa Morrison, Botanical Garden of the Ozarks in Fayetteville. How to avoid the “wild and woolly” look by using native plants that work best in a manicured setting.

2:15-3:15 p.m., “Grow Your Own Groceries,” Don Greenland, Arkansas Master Gardener. Advice on beginning a vegetable garden.

3:30-4:30 p.m., “Backyard Poultry: From Community Zoning to Your Breakfast Omelet,” Dustan Clark, University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service. How to raise chickens in the backyard.FEB. 22 10:30-11:30 a.m., “Remarkably Reliable Plants for Arkansas,” Lucinda Reynolds, Arkansas Master Gardener. Trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals suited to Arkansas’ climate.

11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m., “Behind the Curtain,” Nicholas Staddon, director of new plants for Monrovia Growers. How the business develops new plants; preview of coming introductions; plant drawing.

1-2 p.m., “Ornamental Edibles/ Edible Ornamentals,” Janet B. Carson, UA Cooperative Extension Service. Pretty plants that you can eat, too.

2:15-3:15 p.m., “Outdoor Arkansas Party Time!” Don Bingham, food writer, director of special events at the University of Central Arkansas and a former executive chef for the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion. Ideas for outdoor dining and entertaining for small or large gatherings, using recipes and decorating tips designed to appeal to men. 3:30-4:30 p.m., “Your Urban Farm From Plot to Pot,” Staddon. Edible plants for a small city garden.
