Arkansas achievers

Warren Lindsey of Sherwood has been awarded a scholarship from the Entertainment Software Association Foundation worth $3,000. He is a student at Savannah College of Art and Design majoring in interactive design and game development.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has announced the recipients of art scholarships. Art scholars must pursue a degree in the UALR Department of Art, submit research papers and an art portfolio and participate in an annual scholarship exhibition. The recipients are: Chelsye Garrett of Little Rock.

Joshua Summitt of Conway. Yusra Baig of Little Rock.

Ashley Barker of Little Rock. Heather Harmon of Little Rock.

Taylor Nolley of Little Rock. Cal McCastlain of Little Rock has received a Freshman Tuition Merit Scholarship for the fall 2013 semester from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. He plans to major in business administration.

Rev. Edward Pruett, chaplain at St. Bernard’s Hospice, has received a Hospice Heart Award from the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Arkansas. Pruett is also a minister at Mount Carmel Methodist Church in Jonesboro, and he is a founding member of the executive committee and a board member of the Jonesboro Church Health Center.

Colton Babbitt of Benton has been awarded a President’s Scholarship to attend Williams Baptist College. Babbitt is a senior at Benton High School and the son of Clifton Babbitt and Laurie Gray.

Kammi Risper of Helena-West Helena has been awarded a Leadership Scholarship to attend Williams Baptist College. Risper is a senior at Central High School and the daughter of Mary Risper.

Frank Shepherd of Sherwood has been awarded a Dean’s Scholarship to attend Williams Baptist College. Shepherd is a senior at North Pulaski High School and the son of Frank and Jan Shepherd.

Johanna Miller Lewis, Kimball Erdman, Carla Hines Coleman and Tamela Tenpenny-Lewis have been awarded the Oakley Certificate of Merit by the Association for Gravestone Studies. Lewis, a history professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and Erdman, a history professor at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, were recognized for their work stabilizing and restoring the cemetery at the Rohwer Relocation Center in Desha County. Coleman and Tenpenny-Lewis are co-founders of Preservation of African American Cemeteries Inc., and were recognized for their work identifying, documenting and conserving African-American cemeteries in Arkansas.

Ryan Barrett has been awarded a University Centurium Scholarship for 2014-15 to attend Henderson State University. He is a student at North Pulaski High School and the son of John and Rachel Barrett.

Thomas Hodges has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship for 2014-15 to attend Henderson State University. He is a student at Catholic High School and the son of Raymond and Ann Hodges.

Arkansas Achievers is an opportunity to give recognition to Arkansans for their achievements.

Civilian and military achievements are accepted.
