Fatal fire in Scott investigated

The Lonoke County sheriff's office is investigating after a mobile-home fire in Scott left a 66-year-old man dead.

Officials from the Scott, Keo and East Pulaski fire departments responded about 2:44 a.m. Sunday to a residential fire on Henson Road in Scott. When they arrived, the home was completely engulfed in flames, as was an adjacent camping trailer, Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley said in a statement.

Two residents, a 44-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, awoke to a smoke-filled home and escaped, rousting as they went a 58-year-old man who lived in the adjacent camper, Staley said. They then ran down the street knocking on doors until someone called 911, Staley said.

The mobile home and camping trailer were both destroyed, sheriff's officials said.

Fire officials later discovered in the mobile home the body of a 66-year-old man; his body has been sent to the state Crime Laboratory for analysis, the sheriff's office said. The names of the man killed and the other occupants have not yet been released.

Staley said officials have not yet determined the cause of the man's death or the origin of the fire.
