Nonprofit group Keep Little Rock Beautiful plans to involve more than 1,000 volunteers in this year's citywide cleanup, scheduled for March 8.
The fifth-annual event, in which volunteers work to reduce litter and waste and beautify the city, is part of the national Great American Cleanup, which occurs between March 1 and May 31 each year and involves about 3 million volunteers nationwide, Little Rock officials said in a statement. Participating volunteer groups will consist of members of local churches, clubs and organizations; state agencies, businesses and neighborhood associations.
At the Western Hills Park cleanup site, Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola will kick off festivities at 8 a.m. with a speech and proclamation. Jon Moran, Gov. Mike Beebe's special assistant for agency and legislative affairs; Western Hills Neighborhood Association leaders and Keep Little Rock Beautiful leaders will also speak.
After that, cleanups will occur from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Western Hills Park, 5207 Western Hills Ave.; Murray Park, 5900 Rebsamen Park Road; Interstate Park, 3900 Arch St.; Curran Conway Park, 2501 S. Harrison St.; and in more than 25 Little Rock neighborhoods.
