Probe of shooting goes to state police

Helena-West Helena Police Chief Uless Wallace said Saturday that the Arkansas State Police has assumed full control of an investigation into a shooting that injured an officer and two suspects Thursday.

Wallace said officer Matthew Jarrett, who was shot while executing a search warrant at a duplex on West Cleburne Street, had undergone surgery and remained hospitalized at the Regional Medical Center of Memphis on Saturday. Four officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the state police investigation, he said. The other officers have not been identified by police.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said Saturday that the investigation will take “some time.” He did not release new information on the circumstances of the shooting.
