SUN BELT ARKANSAS STATE 3-18, MIAMI (OHIO) 0-8

Arkansas State swept a doubleheader against Miami (Ohio), winning 3-0 and 18-8 on Saturday.

Bradley Wallace allowed four hits in six innings as he and three other pitchers combined to shut out Miami in the first game at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

Wallace struck out five and walked three for his first victory of the season.

Cody Woodhouse, Tanner Gaines and Adam Grantham each pitched an inning in relief for ASU.

The Red Wolves scored all three runs in the bottom of the third on three hits and an error. Zach George’s RBI single scored Zach Maggio for a 1-0 lead. Austin Baker hit a sacrifice fly, scoring George for a 2-0 advantage. Kevin Fitzpatrick’s sacrifice fly made it 3-0.

In the second game, 11 ASU players had at least one hit. Dustin Jones and Matt Burgess each had three hits. Burgess drove in three runs and scored three runs. Chandler Hawkins struck out four in four innings to earn the victory.

UALR 7, CREIGHTON 4

Tanner Rockwell went 2 for 4 as UALR (2-0) beat Creighton (0-2) at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.

UALR took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Rockwell’s double. Bryson Thionnet and Austin Pfeiffer scored and Rockwell advanced to third, then scored on an error by left fielder Brad McKewon.

Pfeiffer’s three-run home run extended the Trojans’ lead to 6-0 in the second inning.

UALR made it 7-0 in the fifth on Mitchell Scheuler’s RBI double.

Ethan Schlechte allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings to earn his first victory of the season.

SOUTHLAND MISSOURI STATE 6, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 4

Central Arkansas’ rally in the ninth inning fell short in a loss to Missouri State at Bear Stadium in Conway.

The Bears (0-2) trailed 6-2 going into their final at-bat in the ninth inning. Justin Treece hit a leadoff single and Chris Townsend walked before Wesley Hoover popped out for the first out. Doug Votolato loaded the bases with a single to left field, bringing in Tyler Burgess to pitch for Missouri State.

Nate Ferrell hit a line drive single to second base to score Treece. A throwing error on the same play by first baseman Conor Smith allowed Townsend to score to pull UCA within 6-4.

Brandon Montalvo walked, but Austin White grounded into a double play to end the game.

Missouri State (2-0) outhit UCA 15-6. Bryan Young earned the victory in relief. Connor McClain earned the loss, going 42/3 innings, allowing 7 hits, 4 walks and 5 earned runs. Tyler Langley had two hits, including a home run in the eighth inning. SWAC TULANE 3-3, ARK.-PINE BLUFF 1-2

Tulane (3-0) swept a doubleheader against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-3) at Greer Field in New Orleans, winning 3-1 and 3-2.

Randy LeBlanc held the Golden Lions to three hits in six innings. Mikey Ramirez allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings for UAPB. Isias Alcantar had two of UAPB’s four hits.

In the second game, UAPB led 2-0 after two innings on Alcantar’s RBI single and Mitch Bruckshaw’s run-scoring double. But Tulane scored a run in the second and two in the third to take a 3-2 lead, which held up.
