Motorcyclist killed in head-on collision in Hot Spring County

An Austin, Texas, man died Saturday after his motorcycle crossed the centerline of a Hot Spring County highway and hit an oncoming vehicle head-on, authorities said.

Nathan C. Rix, 29, was riding a 2006 Honda motorcycle west on U.S. 270 at a "high rate of speed" when it crossed the centerline about 4:40 p.m., according to an Arkansas State Police report.

The motorcycle then hit an eastbound 2005 Dodge.

Rix died at the scene. The other driver managed to get out of his vehicle as it "burst into flames," the report said. It didn't indicate that driver suffered any injury.

The death was the 43rd traffic fatality in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
