Searcy police arrest one, charge another already in custody in July robbery

Two men are in custody on charges that the robbed a Searcy gas station last July, one of which that was already behind bars for recently robbing the same station.

Odis Brown, 33, of Augusta, was arrested Friday in connection with an aggravated robbery at a Valero gas station, near the intersection of East Park and Benton avenues, in Searcy, according to a release from the Searcy Police Department.

A second man, Carlos Mellon, 28, of Searcy, was also charged in the crime. Mellon, however, was already in custody stemming from separate charges related to an armed robbery of the same gas station in November.

Police responded to the call of the robbery on July 18, with those at the scene reporting that three black males wearing red bandanas over their faces walked into the gas station with at least one pistol and demanded money. In a search of the area after the incident, police found a red bandana that matched the description of those worn by the individuals involved.

A test by the Arkansas State Crime Lab determined the bandana contained the DNA of Brown. He was arrested Friday. Mellon charged on Tuesday, according to Searcy police spokesman Cpl. Steve Hernandez.

No word was given on the status of the purportedly third individual involved in the robbery.

Both men are currently being held at the White County Law Enforcement Center in lieu of $100,000 bond.
