Fishing this week

HOT SPOTS

BEAVER TAILWATER Black or gray midges, olive scuds and olive Woolly Buggers have done well. Fish Woolly Buggers, flashback pheasant tails and soft hackles in the slower water. Nickel and gold Colorado spoons have been hard to beat. Micro jigs tipped with Gulp maggots are also a go-to when nothing else will work. Fish also are being caught on white and yellow PowerBait with a wax worm.

LAKE CATHERINE Rainbow trout are being caught in big numbers. Bank fishermen using red worms or wax worms fished just off the bottom with a marshmallow floater have taken limits of trout quickly when the turbines are not running. Whole kernel corn is highly effective as well. Spin fishermen are using silver or gold Super Dupers and Little Cleos. Boaters trolling shallow-running crankbaits that imitate shad or crawfish are catching the biggest trout. Walleye have moved into the tailrace and are being caught below the bridge on night crawler rigs and Carolina rigs tipped with live minnows.

LAKE CONWAY Bream are biting well on worms and crickets in Pierce Creek and off the bank at Lawrence Landing. Crappie are being caught on minnows and jigs. Bass fishing is good using spinnerbaits and shallow-running crankbaits as well as black/red flake lizards. Catfishing is good using worms and minnows.

LAKE MAUMELLE Largemouth bass are biting well on jigs and spoons fished around brush 25-30 feet deep. Spotted bass are biting well on white jigs fished around brush in 20-25 feet of water. White bass are holding around the chimney and are biting excellently on any shad-imitating lure. Crappie are biting fairly well around brush in 25-30 feet of water at the edgeof the channel. Bream fishing is excellent in 25-30 feet of water using worms and feather jigs fished around brush.

SPRING RIVER Brown trout have been biting on black Woollies and Lamprey flies. Large numbers of rainbows are being caught on Y2K Bugs. Hot pink and red Trout Magnets and white and black Roostertails are working great for spin fishermen.
