Paving will require I-40 ramp closures in Forrest City

Maintenance crews paving several loop ramps on Interstate 40 in Forrest City will require a number of ramp closures in the coming days, according to officials with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

The closings will occur at varying times Friday and Saturday, beginning with the on-ramp from Arkansas 1-B North to I-40 westbound, which will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. A second Friday morning closure will occur on the I-40 westbound off-ramp to Arkansas 1 South, which will be blocked from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Both ramps will also be closed Saturday for additional work — the Arkansas 1-B North ramp from 7 a.m. to noon and the the I-40 westbound off-ramp to Arkansas 1 South from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m..

During the closures, motorists who need to use the Arkansas 1-B North ramp will be rerouted to Arkansas 1 North, where they will have access to I-40 westbound. Those whose need to use the Arkansas 1 South ramp will be detoured to Arkansas 1 at Exit 239.

The work is part of a $51.9 million project to reconstruct 7.8 miles of I-40 in St. Francis County, department officials said.
