1 GLASS

The Arkansas Glasshoppers Inc. are expecting 1,000 people to drop by its 28th annual Depression Era Glass Show and Sale, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday in the Hall of Industry, State Fairgrounds, 2600 Howard St., Little Rock. Two dozen dealers from 14 states will display period glassware, pottery and kitchen items, with door-prize giveaways on the hour and a reference table for glass identification (up to three items). The $5 admission is good for both days.

2 GARDEN

Everything will be blooming at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock for the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Through how-to presentations, workshops and lectures, experts will give advice on topics including backyard poultry, native plants and outdoor decorating.

There will also be workshops for children, vendors and a silent auction. Tickets are $8, $6 for ages 60 and older, free for children 16 and under. A three-day pass is $12. 3 GIFT OF MUSIC

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s Rockefeller Quartet will put on their “Storytime” demonstration, a “choose your own adventure” story with Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons as a backdrop, plus an instrument “petting zoo” where kids can interact with musicians and their instruments, 2 p.m. Sunday at the Argenta Community Theater, 405 Main St., North Little Rock. 4 GORGE

Red balls and red-hot chili are on the agenda for the annual Chili with a Kick event, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. At this benefit for Youth Home, visitors will have the chance to enter or just sample the Chili Cook-off, play a few rounds of kickball or test their endurance in the Las Palmas Jalapeno Eating Contest at 2 p.m. Acoustic music and a Kid’s Area with games and Kindersongs round out the activities. Gallery 221, in Pyramid Place at Second and Center streets, Little Rock, and the American Lung Association team up for clean air with Breathe in the Art, a fundraising art event, 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the gallery. As guests sample wine and hors d’oeuvres, they can place their bids in a silent auction that will include pieces by Gino Hollander, Sean LeCrone, Greg Lahti, Mary Ann Stafford, Rae Ann Bayless, Ally Short, Kesha Stovall and Lilia Hernandez. Visitors can summon a tornado, shift sand, race a sailboat in heavy wind and experience other forces of nature as “ Shaping Our World” goes on display Saturday at the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St., Pine Bluff. The exhibition, developed by the Arkansas Discovery Network with funding from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, and which has been on display since September at the Arkansas State University Museum, will be up through Aug. 31.
