A chemical spill that occurred in a residential area in Jonesboro on Friday prompted multiple state and local authorities to respond the scene for evaluation and clean-up.

The first call came to authorities at 2:25 p.m. from a city code enforcer who spotted the liquid along Craighills Place in southern Jonesboro, according to Jonesboro police spokesman Jeff Presley.

Presley said the liquid was determined to be a non-hazardous herbicide.

Jonesboro Fire Department spokesman Capt. Korley Martin said that the spill originated at a residence located at 1020 Craighead Forest Road, where 15 gallons of the chemical spilled out of several jugs into a yard and ran off onto Craighills Place, a neighboring road.

Crews with the Jonesboro Police Department, Jonesboro Fire Department and the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management contained the spill and are currently cleaning it up, Martin said. Presley added that no one required medical attention as a result of the spill.

Emergency management officials are on scene while clean-up crews finish the job, according to Martin. While no major roads were affected, Martin said, Craighills Place remains closed to traffic.
