Ex-teacher facing more sex charges

OSCEOLA - A former Osceola High School teacher accused last month of inappropriate sexual contact with male students now faces additional charges, Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington said in a news release Friday.

Jacqueline Nicole Winberry, 28, of Paragould was charged Friday in Mississippi County Circuit Court in Osceola with three counts of transportation of minors for prohibited sexual conduct. The charges are Class A felonies, punishable by six to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000.

Winberry also is charged with four counts of first-degree sexual assault.

Her attorney, Bill Bristow of Jonesboro, said he wouldn’t talk about the case because it was ongoing.

“It is my custom to make no comments about a criminal case until it’s resolved,” Bristow said.

Winberry was arrested Jan. 16 after the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline received a report that Winberry had engaged in sexual contact with at least one student. She surrendered to Arkansas State Police investigator Allen Earnhart in Paragould, Ellington said.

Circuit Judge Victor Hill of West Memphis set Winberry’s trial for April 14.
