One of these days, a company will create a laundry product that doesn’t look like candy. There have been plenty of stories about small children mistaking laundry gel packs and scent boosters for tasty edibles. Who can blame them? They’re sweet-smelling and the color of candy.

The newest, the Snuggle Scent Booster, is light pink or blue and fluffy like cotton candy. Combine that with the familiar image of the Snuggle bear on the packaging and it’s not hard to see how a toddler might be fooled into thinking what’s inside would be harmless and yummy.Regardless of appearance, the Snuggle version of the scent booster does work well. Most scent boosters involve pouring little discs or crystals into a cup and then depositing them in the washing machine drum. These boosters are little one-size-fits-all packs you just toss in before adding your clothes, towels or sheets. Simple, no spills, and the laundry ends up smelling sweet and fresh.

But do they have to look like cotton candy? Maybe if they looked like Brussels sprouts, consumers wouldn’t need to keep their laundry products under lock and key.
