MOTOR SPORTS Karts racing at Barton Coliseum

The Southern Dirt Karting Series will open its 2014 season today and Sunday with the King of the Coliseum on a dirt oval constructed inside Barton Coliseum at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds in Little Rock.

Eight classes of karts are scheduled to race today with 10 classes slated for Sunday. Hot laps begin at 1:30 p.m. and heat races are at 2 p.m. After a short intermission, there will be last-chance qualifiers and the A-Main features for each class.

Adult grandstand admission is $10 today and $15 on Sunday. Children aged 10 and under get in free. Pit passes are $20 per day.

SOFTBALL Arkansas’ Moll throws no-hitter

Grace Moll threw a no-hitter in Arkansas’ 13-0 victory over Eastern Michigan on Friday at the Florida Gulf Coast Round Robin in Fort Myers, Fla.

Moll’s no-hitter was the first for the Razorbacks since Hope McLemore and Chelsea Cohen combined for one against Kentucky on April 20. Moll faced the minimum hitters through five innings with the only base runner coming on a walk in the third inning, which was erased by a double play.

Arkansas had 13 hits with home runs from Jayme Gee, Amanda Geile and Devon Wallace. Chloe Oprzedek had three hits. Gee had five RBI while Stephanie Canfield and Clarissa Navarro both scored three runs.

In the second game, Arkansas won 20-1, scoring 12 runs in the first inning. Nine different players had a hit with Canfield and Geile getting three and Navarro finishing with three RBI.

Kimmy Beasley allowed 1 hit while striking out 5.

Arkansas (10-3) plays Villanova at 8 a.m. today and Florida Gulf Coast at 2:45 p.m.
