2A-4 EAST GIRLS

Briggler sisters carry Conway St. Joseph

CONWAY - Megan Briggler spent the final minutes of Conway St. Joseph’s 44-40 victory over Hector in the finals of the 2A-4 East tournament lying on the floor at the end of the Lady Bulldogs’ bench.

Suffering from back issues, Briggler had to leave it in the hands of her teammates (and family) to close out St. Joseph’s (25-3) victory over the Lady Wildcats (18-8). But it was her two big plays, one a three-pointer with 3:01 left, that tied the score at 34-34 that helped the Lady Bulldogs rally for the victory. She hit two free throws with 1:57 left for a 36-34 lead.

“Those were two big plays by Megan Briggler,’’ St. Joseph Coach Chris Kordsmeier said. “Coming across that screen and hitting the three was really big. At the time that was a big play. They had the momentum.

“She plays when she can. She really gutted it out. Sheis hurt but she was a senior playing her final game in her home gym and she wanted to be a part of it. She came up big last night in the semifinals with 17 points.”

With Briggler on the sideline, twin sister Rachel Briggler took over, hitting five free throws in the final 36.9 seconds to secure the victory. Rachel Briggler led St. Joseph with 15 points, Megan Briggler added 12 and Anna Mayor scored 12.

Alyssa Rook led Hector with 13 points.
