BASKETBALL Louisiana College handles Ozarks

Kevin Lewis scored 25 points in leading Louisiana College to a 95-88 victory Saturday over the University of the Ozarks in Alexandria, La.

Louisiana College (12-10) led 50-35 at the half. Ozarks got as close as six points in the second half.

Josh Ferrell led the Eagles (8-15) with 24 points while Ted Beard added 14 and Josh Clark and Kelby Robinson each had 12.

SOFTBALL Arkansas wins 10th in a row

Arkansas defeated Villanova 12-0 and Florida Gulf Coast 14-7 on Saturday to win its 10th consecutive game and improve to 12-3 on the season.

Against Villanova, Sydney Wright threw a one-hit shutout, facing 15 batters in five innings. Arkansas scored six runs in the first inning off two Villanova pitchers.

Arkansas trailed by three runs going into the sixth inning against Florida Gulf Coast before scoring nine times. Kelly Young picked up the victory in relief by pitching 6 2/3 innings, allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 4. Clarissa Navarro went 3 for 4 and scored 2 runs.

Harding sweeps doubleheader

Harding defeated Southern Nazarene 5-3 and 2-0 Saturday in Searcy to improve to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Great American Conference.

In the first game, the Bisons broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning when Amanda Berdon bunted in Jessica Greene and Kinsey Beck scored on Carolyn Clayton’s sacrifice fly.

In the second game, Greene singled to lead off the fourth, stole second and scored on Brookelynn Moon’s bunt to the vacated shortstop hole. Moon stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch.

BASEBALL Arkansas Tech goes 1-1

Arkansas Tech (10-3) defeated Quincy 12-7 and lost 10-6 to St. Cloud State on Saturday at Tech Field in Russellville.

In the first game, Mike Kattula went 3 for 5 with 2 runs, 5 RBI and a home run. Sage Boehner drove in five while Patrick Castleberry had three RBI. Trent Armstrong picked up the victory by giving up 3 runs in 6 1/3 innings, striking out 6.

In the second game, the visiting Huskies scored three runs in the second and hit consecutive home runs in the third to take a 6-0 lead.

Zach Skelton took the loss, allowing 8 runs on 7 hits in 3 innings while striking out 7.

Arkansas Baptist wins 2 of 3

Behind three home runs from Dontrell Brown, the Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes won two of three games from Tyler Junior College in a weekend series.

Dereck Wooten (2-0) picked up a victory on Friday as the Buffaloes won the series opener 9-1. Tyler, which came into the series ranked No. 2 in the nation, won the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, 6-0, but Arkansas Baptist (5-1) came back to take the second game, 10-7, with Jace Powers (1-0) picking up the victory.

Brown was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI while Corky Welch was 3 for 5 with a home run, a double and 3 RBI in the second game Saturday.
