Centers for Youth and Families’ fundraiser sets festive mood the South American way

Rio Carnival was the theme for this year’s Evolve, held in the Grand Ballroom of the Little Rock Marriott on Feb. 15. The event is the Centers for Youth and Families’ signature fundraiser.

The mood for the festive evening was set with purple lighting and guest tables decked out with tall arrangements of black and white ostrich feathers, confetti and feathered masks or tall white and pink lamps centered on colorful table cloths.

A stage centered the room, where Rodney Block and the Real Music Lovers and dancers from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock department of theater, arts and dance entertained. Aerialists, dancers and stilt walkers from ReCreation Studios also performed throughout the evening.

More than 400 attended.

They enjoyed a Brazilian-themed menu and had a chance to bid on silent auction items. KTHV’s Dawn Scott was master of ceremonies. Event cochairmen were Melissa Bandy and Nick Copas.

About $120,000 was raised at the event, making it the largest and most successful to date, according to Christopher Shenep, the centers’ development officer.

Its mission is to provide specialized prevention, intervention and treatment services that promote emotional and social wellness for children and families of Arkansas.
