Zimbabwe's Mugabe celebrates 90th birthday

HARARE, Zimbabwe — Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, celebrating his 90th birthday at a stadium event, urges the nation's youth to shun homosexuality.

Mugabe said Sunday that he felt "as young as 9-year-old boy."

Organizers from Mugabe's ZANU-PF party said more than 45,000 people gathered at the stadium in Marondera, 45 miles east of Harare.

Mugabe turned 90 on Feb. 21 but was away in Singapore for what his office said was a "cataract operation" on his left eye. He returned to Zimbabwe on Saturday.

Speaking for an hour Mugabe said homosexuality is unacceptable in Zimbabwe.

In an earlier interview broadcast on state television, Mugabe said he had no plans to retire.
