Hagel proposes Army cuts in 2015 budget

By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel proposed shrinking the Army, closing military bases and making other military-wide savings Monday as part of a broad reshaping of priorities after more than a decade of war.

Hagel outlined his vision in a speech at the Pentagon, a week before President Barack Obama is to submit his 2015 budget plan to Congress.

Hagel said the military must adjust to the reality of smaller budgets, even as the United States faces a more volatile, more unpredictable world that requires a more nimble military.

Under the Hagel plan, which Congress could change, the active-duty Army would shrink from its current 522,000 soldiers to between 440,000 and 450,000. That would make it the smallest since just before the U.S. entered World War II.

not surprised in the least, taking the Clinton cuts to an extreme while the world is in turmoil, but all the Liberals and Democrats must be celebrating the downfall of the SuperPower formerly know as the USA

dddka ...... don't keep us in suspense, give us your conspiracy theory.
ucawhy ...... will you tell just what type and how big a military we need to defeat terrorist?
What would be doing at this time to beat the terrorist? Be specific.
T6 ..... Same question as I put to ucawhy.

We really need to get away from the boots on the ground approach. We simply need fewer men and women getting killed and wounded overseas. Keep the spending on the latest technology of weapons, but let's stop spending so much on having our people on the ground in places where we should not be.

lazybar,

That line of thinking is a little old. If he were on a secret mission to destroy America, I think we would know it by now. Of course, some of you old white men think that gays in the NBA and NFL are the end of civilization as we know it. LOL.

LB - when I think you can't say anything stupider, you do. Congrats!
Military cuts just show how much the GOP truly wants to cut the budget.
And I'll remind you, the GOP (not you bat S^*& crazy group, I understand ya'll want to live in the wild wild west), only started caring about the budget in 2008.
Is there not an intelligent Repub that posts on this website? I know some and talk to them frequently. A shame there aren't more to exchange legitimate ideas, on this website.

3rd WorldState,

I used to be an intelligent Republican. Now, i'm intelligent independent leaning strongly Democratic. I often used to go to Republican political functions, and then I drifted away as the party went too far to the right. Now, I often go to Democratic functions and disagree with what they are saying. Some of them just don't understand that the federal government spends too much money. I went to a Democratic function at the Bolger center in Potomac MD yesterday. It is acres and acres of the most valuable real estate in the country, and it is owned by the federal government and used to train postal workers. I mentioned to my congressman that the acreage needs to be sold and that postal workers should be trained in a cheaper place such as Little Rock or Kansas City. In fact, they really don't need to be trained other than locally anyway. It is just a boondoggle. I need to start a new party. All the Republicans and Democrats need to be sent home. I guess we should keep Susan Collins of Maine and Mark Warner of Virginia, but many of the rest of them should be sent packing.

Definitely Independent is the way to go. I've said it before. Most Dems are what Repub were in the 90's. Regan himself would be labeled a socialist today. I really believe though, that if there were more moderate Repub's in Congress, you could get some entitlement corrections.
But they are a weak party, unable to stand up to the uneducated bullies in their party.
