Elsewhere in entertainment and the arts: Brass quintet

Pinnacle Brass, the University of Central Arkansas’ resident brass quintet - Larry Jones and Eric Liu, trumpet; Brent Shires, horn; Justin Cook, trombone; and Christian Carichner, tuba - will perform music from its December two-week tour of China at 1:40 p.m. today in the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

The program will include Bai Lin’s Introduction; “Grover’s Corners” from Aaron Copland’s film score to Our Town; JohnPhilip Sousa’s Hands Across the Sea; Samuel Ward’s “America the Beautiful”; Jiang Jun Fu’s Silvery Moonlit Night; and Duke Ellington’s “Do Nothin’ Till You Hear From Me.” The performance will also feature comments, narrative and images from the tour.

Lunch lecture

Mark Christ, author and community outreach director for the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and a member of the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, will discuss the role of black soldiers during the latter years of the Civil War in a Brown Bag Lunch Lecture titled “An Eagle on His Button,” noon Wednesday at the Old State House Museum, 300 W.
