Fat Tuesday’s good times in state

Arkansans looking to partake in the revelry of New Orleans’ time-honored Mardi Gras celebration are in luck with several events scheduled around the state. LITTLE ROCK

The Southside Main Street Project, SoMa, will once again host its annual parade. The parade, including floats and walkers, rolls at noon Saturday, beginning at Main and 24th streets. Heading north along Main, it will conclude at the intersection of 12th street.

Immediately afterward, The Root Cafe will hold the judging in its Beard Growing Contest in The Bernice Garden.

That evening, Holy Souls Altar Society Mardi Gras Dinner will be held in the Allen Center of Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church, 1003 N. Tyler St. Beginning at 5 p.m., the evening includes cocktails, dinner and silent auction with a live auction at 7:15 and an after party from 8 to 10 p.m. Reservations for tickets, starting at$40, close on Friday. FORT SMITH

“Mardi Gras - The Best Party in Town” will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 22 N. 13th St. The event, a fundraiser for the Fort Smith Museum of History, offers cocktails, music, a Cajun dinner, and live auction. Tickets are $75. Call (479) 783-7841.

EUREKA SPRINGS

The Krewe of Krazo (Ozark spelled backward) continues the season-long celebration it began in early January.

The Hookers and Jokers Ball is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center, 205 W. Van Buren, with a mini parade, music, buffet with heavy hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. Prizes will be awarded for best costume in this year’s theme, “Eureka Circus.” Tickets are $25 and can be bought in advance. Seating is limited. The Coronation Masquerade Ball will begin at 6 p.m. Friday in the Crescent Hotel’s Crystal Ballroom at 75 Prospect Ave., featuring a champagne buffet dinner and music. Reservations for the $40 tickets are required and can be made by calling (479) 981-9551.

A New Orleans-style Jazz Brunch featuring music will be held at the Crescent Hotel at 11:30 a.m. Sunday with those attending encouraged to bring their umbrellas. Call (479) 253-9652.

On Mardi Gras day, March 4, the Saint ’Lizbeth King Cake Ball and dinner begins at 6 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church Parish Center at 232 Passion Play Road. Tickets are $40 and can be reserved by calling (479) 253-8864.
