It is comforting, inviting, welcoming, appetizing, enticing, warm, hearty, wholesome, cozy and is filled with the promise of nourishment to come. The aroma of fresh baked bread. We can think of no scent that promises (and almost always delivers) more, writes Food editor Kelly Brant.

Good, quality loaves of homemade bread require four vital ingredients: fresh yeast, flour, liquid and patience. (A little salt and sugar certainly won’t hurt.)
