LR schools extend application dates

The Little Rock School District has announced extended deadlines for applications to two schools that are offering redesigned academic programs for the 2014-15 school year.

The two schools are open to students throughout the district.

The Forest Heights Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Academy for kindergarten-through-eighth grades is taking applications through Wednesday for all grades except kindergarten and sixth grade. Those grades are now full, and waiting lists have been established.

The Geyer Springs Gifted and Talented Academy, formerly titled the High Ability Academy, is taking applications through March 14 for seats in grades three through five.

Geyer Springs will serve attendance-zone pupils in grades one through five, as well as pupils identified as gifted from across the district in grades three through five.

Over the course of three years, Geyer Springs will transition to a school only for gifted students in third-through-fifth grades.

Program descriptions, enrollment requirements and application forms for both Forest Heights, 5901 Evergreen Drive, and Geyer Springs, 5240 Mabelvale Pike, are available on the Little Rock School District’s website: lrsd.org.

All applications for the two schools must be presented in person to the district’s Student Registration Office, 501 Sherman St., by the deadline dates. The application forms cannot be sent electronically or through the U.S. Postal Service.
