RONNIE LEE COKER, age 60, of Mabelvale passed away Feb. 22, 2014, in Little Rock, Ark. He was born May 30, 1953, in Little Rock.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Irby and Geneva Coker; and his four brothers Ray, Teddy, Jerry and Steven Coker. Survivors include his daughter, Lindsey Willis, and husband, Jeff; two grandchildren, Alison and Jaycie Willis, whom Ronnie loved spending time with; a sister, Alice Glasgow, and husband, Frank; brothers John Coker and wife, Norma, Irby Coker, Robert Coker and wife, Cecile, and Terry Coker; and a longtime companion, Pepper Dawn McFarland.

ELIZABETH J. “BETTY” COOK, age 89, of Jacksonville passed away Saturday, Feb.; 22, 2014. She had a long working career in the insurance industry, having retired from Meadors & Adams Insurance Agency. She was for many years a member of the former Insurance Women of Little Rock, a professional women’s organization where she held many offices, inspired and encouraged many members to excel in their chosen careers. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.She was an avid Razorback fan, especially basketball and enjoyed watching all the games. She had a generous spark and wonderful wit. She had a story for every occasion. Her family and friends will miss her storytelling and wonderful outlook on life.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bess McDowell of Little Rock; and a sister, Millie McSweeney of Fort Myers, Fla. She is survived by her sister, Lena Mae Skinner of Denver, Colo.; nieces, Judy Welch and her husband, Walt, of Denver, Colo., Jean McSweeney and her husband, Jay HoHam, of Little Rock; nephews, Tommie Dean Skinner and his wife, Pauline, of Gardena, Calif., Larry Harvey and his wife, Linda, of Fort Myers,Fla; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews from all across the country and Italy. She is also survived by a special friend, Liz Oswald, and all of the former members of the Insurance Women of Little Rock.

DAVID PAUL SHEFFIELD, 65, of Little Rock died Saturday. Born Nov.21, 1948, to the late John Allen Sheffield Sr. and Pauline (Linzy) Sheffield. David was a tech sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1967 until 1975. He retired from Siemen’s as a machinist.He is survived by children, Deborah (Sheffield) McConnell (Marc) of Lonoke and James Sheffield (Jennifer) of Bryant; grandchildren, Bryan, Samantha, Ashley, Noah and Evan; and brother, John Sheffield Jr. (Linda) of Oklahoma. MYRTIS BUELL RED WILLIAMS, 98 of Little Rock Ark. passedaway Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. She was born April 3, 1915, to Uriah Rick and Mattie Carolyn Spann. Myrtis was of the Methodist faith and loved her Lord and Savior.

Myrtis was preceded indeath by her husband, Jack Williams; her daughter, Patricia Ann Ison; and granddaughter, Gayla Ann Riffle, as well as her parents, seven brothers and two sisters. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, grandson, Richie (Shelia) Ison; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Granny loved working in her yard, and always wanted the very best health and happiness for her family.

The family would like to thank the doctors and dedicated nurses and staff at UAMS that took such great care of our Granny. We are forever thankful.

BATESVILLE - Freddy Wayne Dunegan, 73, of Batesville diedat his home on Sunday, February 23, 2014. He was born in Batesville, Arkansas on June 10, 1940 to Homer Dunegan and Mary Virginia (Martin) Dunegan. He was a retiredheavy equipment operator and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Batesville. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Mount Zion Lodge. Freddy enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash music, traveling, and his daily coffee meetings with friends. One of his favorite things was his restored 1979 Trans Am and he loved Alaska. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Patricia A. (Moomaw) Dunegan of the home; two sons, Jody Lee Dunegan and his wife, Jenny of Southside and Andy Edwards of Batesville; one daughter, Tammy G. Edwards also of Batesville; five grandchildren: Jace Dunegan, Julee Dunegan, Jillian Dunegan all of Southside, Haley Dougan of Austin, Ark. and Katelin Fuller and her husband, Nate of Maple Springs, Ark. He is also survived by a sister, Merle Harmon and her husband, Winfred of Southside, and a faithful friend and dog, Frankie. He was preceded in death by his parents; twobrothers: Vernel Lee Dunegan and Michael Dunegan.

Pallbearers will be Andy Edwards, Jerry Dunegan, John Ellis, Noel Baldridge, Robbi Francis, and Darrell Baker. Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Dunegan, Terry Mc-Gee, Freddy Jones, Gary Hilburn, Melvin Hawkins, Billy Meeks, Kyle Francis, James Milum, Van Thomas, and Dr. Robert Walton.

BEEBE - Freddie Eugene Hyde went to be with our Lord on February 23, 2014 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Eugene E. Hyde and Estelle Camp Hyde.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Hyde Reed, Doris Hyde Heird and Patsy HydeWatts; one brother-in-law, Thomas (Tommy Watts); one brother, Harold Hyde of Mississippi; grandson, Joshua Brockinton, of Beebe. He is survived by his sister, Stella Hyde Ivy; children, Amalea Hyde Buchanan (Steven), Michelle Hyde Treat (Bill); Jason S. Hyde (Bonnie); several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his estranged wife, Jerry Hyde.

After graduating high school at Watson Chapel (Jefferson County) he started his career with Sunbeam Baking Company in Pine Bluff, from there he went to Colonial Bakery Company in Little Rock where he retired. He then was Co-founder and owner of Arkansas Ostomy Supply in Little Rock. Freddie enjoyed golfing and fishing and had three holes in one during his playing days. He also loved the Razorbacks (Go Hogs) football and everything HOGS. His favorite vacation place was Destin, Florida. He was a member of St.James Methodist Church in Little Rock. He loved his church and friends. His special friends were Paul Holderfield, Jimmy Hagler and Bill Chandler.

Our dad was fun, funny and a pain at times, but his generosity led to the success of so many. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the physicians and nurses of the CCU at White County Hospital.

CONWAY - Jack T. McDuff, age 83, of Conway, Arkansas, left this world Sunday afternoon, February 23, 2014. Born in Bastrop, Louisiana, on February 3, 1931, he was the son of the late Frank McDuff and Ruby Douglas McDuff Haight.

Jack married the former Elizabeth Ann (Van) Morris on November 22, 1953, in Heber Springs, Arkansas. He graduated from LSU in 1954. Jack was the first instructor of horticulture and landscaping at Petit Jean Vo-Tech in Morrilton. He then became the first grounds maintenance supervisor at the Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. From there, he became the North Little Rock Parks and Recreation grounds supervisor and then the grounds supervisor for Lakewood Properties, also in North Little Rock. He retired as grounds supervisor for Hendrix College in Conway. Jack was a CARTI volunteer and a master gardener.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his stepfather, William R. Haight and his brother, Charles McDuff. Jack is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Van) Morris McDuff of Conway;

two daughters, Cynthia McDuff Phillips and Mary Beth McDuff Elms (Richard); one granddaughter, Carmen Phillips; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Kennedi, all of Little Rock; and one brother, Dan McDuff (Genevieve) of Monroe, Louisiana.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 26, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the 1st United Methodist Church in Conway with funeral services following at 10:30 a.m. Graveside service and burial will be in the Heber Springs Cemetery at 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to the 1st United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or charity of choice. DES ARC - On February 21, 2014, a well loved wife and mother of four, Alice Joan Osborne Seevers, of Des Arc, was carried home to be with her Savior at theage of 77. She was born on May 30, 1936 in Des Arc, Ark. to Alvin and Lorraine Muse Osborne. Jo married Riley Seevers on November 10, 1956.

She is survived by her husband, Riley Seevers, one daughter, Cynthia Jo Seevers, two sons, Riley Keith Seevers and Aaron Joseph Seevers, one sister, Lana Gail Dearing, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly LaNae Seevers, her parents, Alvin and Lorraine Osborne, and two brothers, Harry Boise Osborne and Billy Jack Osborne.

Jo worked for Dr. Schumann as his assistant for several years.She was a dedicated military and preacher’s wife who devoted her life to serving the Lord, giving her time and service to her church family. As a mother and grandmother, she left us with a legacy of selflessness and compassion. Jo, aka, Mama Jo, has blessed so many lives with her unconditional love and acceptance. She will be forever in our hearts.

Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Des Arc. Pastor Melvin York officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery. HAMPTON - Verda Lorayne Owens Nowlin, age 97, of Hampton, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She was born February 7, 1917 in Hampton, Arkansas to the late Mack C. and Beryl “Bee” Lindsey Owens.

Verda is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann Nowlin Benson; a grandson, Thomas Craig Benson and his wife Charlotte, a granddaughter, Ann Michelle Robertson and husband Pryor; her great grandchildren, Thomas Conner Robertson,Jackson Craig Robertson, Christiane Benson, Garland Benson, and Alexis Miller; and great great grandchildren, Samantha Ready and Alyssa Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred T. Nowlin, son, Fred T. Nowlin, Jr., sister, Erna Wallingsford, and two brothers, Milas C. “Buddy” Owens and Mack C. Owens Jr.

Verda was a lifelong musician and while growing up her family played in the Hampton Band. At 17, she was performing all around south Arkansas and playing piano at singing conventions. For nearly two decades, she played the piano at Campground Presbyterian Church in Hampton and was accompanied there by her sister on the organ. She continued her piano performances up to a few months ago at Good Shepherd. “Granny” will always be remembered for her love of family, a funfilled spirit, and a quirky sense of humor.

The family would like to express their gratitude for all the love and care Verda received from the staff at Good Shepherd as well as the dear friendship from Margaret and Ella Mae.

LONOKE - Allen Elton Winfrey, age 89, died February 23, 2014. He was a WWII Veteran, a lifetime member of the American Legion and a farmer. MALVERN - Plumer Burnett Peeler, age 89, of Malvern, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014. He was born September 15, 1924 in Benton, Arkansas. Mr. Peeler was a retired carpenter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran with the 83rd Infantry having served during WWII, the Battle of the Bulge, Battle of Hedge Row and Normandy. He received several medals during his service including the Purple Heart. Mr. Peeler was a 50 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 217.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Turner Peeler and Eula Eugene Carlisle Peeler; his wife, Wilma Mavis Caddy Peeler; three brothers, David Peeler Jr., Harold Peeler and Eugene Peeler and three sisters, Wilma Peeler Carden, Faitha Peeler Cox and Helen Peeler Ross. He is survived by his five sons, Plumer Burnett Peeler Jr. (Buffy) of Vacaville, California, Jerry Lee Peeler (Karen) of Vacaville, California,Kenneth Howard Peeler (Vicky) of Escalon, California, David Anthony Peeler (Nancy) of Benton and Darell Wayne Peeler (Cassandra) of Sacramento, California; two brothers, J.W. Peeler of Tucson, Arizona and John Peeler of Weatherford, Texas; two sisters, Anna Peeler Pickard of Benton and Elsie Peeler Whitley of Benton; 19 grandchildren including Jill Nicole Peeler, Plumer Burnett Peeler III and Donald Richard Wright and 32 great-grandchildren.

MONTICELLO - Curtis Waymon Wilson, 85, of Monticello passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Autumn Leaves of Riverstone in Missouri City, Texas. He was born January 14, 1929. He was a retired maintenance supervisor at UAM, veteran of the United States Navy and member of Pauline Missionary Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Henry Curtis Wilson and Verta Burks Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Harrison Wilson, brother Joe Wilson and sister Mary Sue Wilson Johnson. Survivors include daughter, Donna Wilson Owens and husband, Rick Owens and grandson, Tyler Wilson Owens, all of Sugar Land, Texas.

MOUNTAIN HOME - Merlin Hopper, age 81, of MountainHome, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014, at his residence.

He was born October 29, 1932, at Sidon, Arkansas, to Sanford and Mae Gipson Hopper. On August 4, 1955, hemarried Jackie Lindsey in Searcy, Arkansas. Mr. Hopper was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran who served in a cross-country ski team in Japan. He worked for General Dynamics as an electronics technician building nuclear missiles. In 1963 he moved to Mountain Home, and with his brother Lynn, co-founded Hopper Termite Control. He moved to Heber Springs, Arkansas in 1965 and opened a branch office of the company, then moved back to Mountain Home in 1990. Mr. Hopper was a member of the Mountain Home Church of Christ and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons.

He is survived by his wife Jackie Hopper: of the home; two sons: Mark (Julee) Hopper: Mountain Home; and Alan Hopper: Dallas, Texas; a brother: Glenn Hopper: Heber Springs, Arkansas; three grandchildren: Cole (Michelle) Hopper: Ft. Lauderdale, Forida; Conner and Cameron Hopper: both of Mountain Home; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Lynn, Gerald, Carroll and Wilton Hopper; and two sisters: Norma Hopper and Earlene Jones.

SEARCY - Roy O’Neal “The Phone Man” Shelton, 76, of Searcy went to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2014. He was born on Tuesday, June 15, 1937 in Bigelow, Arkansas to the late Vester G. and Emma Waddle Shelton.

Pawpaw, ashe was affectionately known to his grandchildren, was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He loved deer hunting, the Razorbacks, going to Walmart, and breakfast at Maddie’s. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Searcy, a graduate of Central High School in LittleRock class of 1956 and a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lewis Shelton; and a sister, Sue Shelton. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ne’ll Adams Shelton; sons, Greg Edwards (Brenda) of Cabot and Neal Shelton of Conway; daughters, Mrs. and Mr. Mitchell, Tyra Curtis (Ronnie) of Little Rock and Roxanne Shelton of Little Rock; sister, Ruth Williams of Texas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters-inlaw, Darlene Gentry of Van Buren, Mildred Holland of Little Rock and Roselene Adams of Pangburn; brothers-in-law, Huey Gowen of Garner and Dale Smith of Searcy; and a host of other family and friends.

SHERIDAN - Olen Randell “Bubba” Carter, age 54 of Sheridan, formerly of Monticello, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock, Ark. He was born February 29, 1960, in Dallas, Texas to Mary BerniceHall Carter and the late Olen Odell Carter.

He was a former employee of Burlington Industries and a member of the Second Baptist Church of Monticello. Bubba was an avid Razorback fan and playing the guitar and banjo were among his favorite things to do. He had a huge heart, loved everyone and loved being involved with whatever others were doing.

He also enjoyed riding four wheelers and going to the shop to work with his brother-in-law. He brought joy to everyone he was around and never met a stranger. Other hobbies that he enjoyed was grilling, raking leaves and just being with his family. Bubba dearly loved his mom and dad and has always been a “Mama’s boy.”

His survivors include his mother, Mary Hall Carter of Sheridan; six sisters, Brenda Watson and husband David of Sheridan, Audrey McKenzie of North Little Rock; Cathy Owens and husband Dean of Pine Bluff; Mary Francis Pezullo and husband Tony of Monticello, Charlotte Fisher and husband Pat of Monticello, and Linda Shafer and husband Keith of Jonesboro; 11 nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; and his loving pet, Betty.

WARREN - Helen Lowe Mullins, age 90, of Warren, Ark., passed away February 22, 2014 at Bradley County Medical Center. She was born September 5, 1923, in New Edinburg, Arkansas, to the late Luther B. andMary Huff Lowe. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Floyd Lowe, Kloyce Lowe, Erwin Lowe, and Leola Lowe Johnson.

Upon graduation from high school she joined the Women’s Army Corps and received her surgical technician certification training while serving during WWII. After the war she married James Lee (Porter) Mullins on November 10, 1946. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this past November. She was a member of First Baptist Church, a WWII veteran, and worked at Crow-Whaley Clinic in Warren for 44 years.

She is survived by her husband, James Lee; one son Jim and his wife Donna of Fayetteville; three grandchildren: Robyn Mullins Taylor, Michelle Mullins Peevy, John David Mullins and five great-grandchildren: Blake, Sarah and Brandon Taylor, Kaylee Peevy and Kaitlyn Mullins; one niece, Rachel Picking; and two great-nieces: Sharon Reeves andDenny Hartman.

DALLAS - Sybil F. Crawford, widow of Thomas E. “Gene” Crawford, and daughter of the late John Lawrence and Ruby O. Card, died in Dallas on February 20, 2014, aged 84 years. She is survived by her sister, Jane E. Card of Dallas.

Born in Little Rock on October 21, 1929, the deceased had made her home in Dallas since 1969. Prior to retirement she was employed by an international commercial lender. A longtime member of numerous organizations, including Magna Carta Dames and the Roger Williams Family Association, she wrote for several trade magazines, history and gravestone publications.

After cremation, inurnment will take place at Mount Holly Cemetery (for which the deceased authored a sesquicentennial history in 1993). Friends are invited to consider a memorial gift to Mount Holly Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 250118, Little Rock, Ark., a particular interest of the deceased.
