EL DORADO - El Dorado police officers shot a man while investigating an attack on a woman who later died, authorities said.
Capt. Kevin Holt said officers went to a home Saturday night after receiving a report of an injured woman. A man, identified as Rashad Morgan, left the home and pointed a small chrome handgun toward officers, Holt said. Police opened fire after Morgan ignored several commands to drop the weapon, Holt said.
Officers then found Lavecchia Dixon, 28, inside the home with multiple wounds. Dixon was taken to an area hospital and later airlifted to the UAMS Medical Center, where she died, police said.
Morgan was listed in critical condition at an El Dorado hospital. He faces charges of capital murder in Dixon’s death and four counts of aggravated assault, Holt said.
Authorities did not know if Morgan had an attorney.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid leave during an internal investigation. Police haven’t released their names or said how many were involved in the shooting.
