RUNNING Marathon field full

The Little Rock Marathon is officially sold out, but interested runners still have an opportunity to take part in other events surrounding Sunday’s marathon.

The 12th running of the marathon, which begins with an 8 a.m. general start Sunday, has been sold out since Jan. 24 with 3,500 registered runners. The Little Rockers event, a one-mile run for children, sold out Feb 10.

Spots in the half-marathon, 10K and 5K remain.

Registration is closed, but runners can register at the Little Rock Marathon Health and Fitness Expo from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Statehouse Convention Center.

There are 344 spots remaining for the half-marathon at $85, 394 for the 10K at $50 and 420 for the 5K at $40.

If registered runners pull out of the marathon or Saturday’s Little Rockers run, runners can register at the expo. Registration for the marathon is $110 at the expo and $25 for the children’s mile.

The 8 a.m. general start will be at the intersection of President Clinton Boulevard and Sherman Street.

TRACK AND FIELD 3 Hogs will miss SEC Indoors meet

The top-ranked Arkansas men’s team will go into this weekend’s SEC Indoor Championships short-handed.

Hepthathlete Kevin Lazas and distance runners Kemoy Campbell and Stanley Kebenei won’t make the trip to College Station, Texas. Campbell is injured, Kebenei has an illness, and Lazas is dealing with a family emergency, Arkansas Coach Chris Bucknam said.

Campbell and Kebenei were Arkansas’ top performers in cross country last fall. Kebenei was runner-up at last year’s SEC Indoor Championships in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, while Campbell earned points in the 3,000 meters and mile.

Lazas is the defending NCAA champion in the heptathlon and has the nation’s top score in the event this season.

Arkansas is looking for its third consecutive SEC championship indoors and ninth consecutive conference title overall in indoor and outdoor track and field and cross country.
