Elsewhere in entertainment and the arts: Theater ‘cinecasts’

The National Theatre’s original stage production of War Horse (adapted for the stage by Nick Stafford from Michael Morpurgo’s novel) will appear on more than 350 U.S. movie screens - including the Tinseltown in Benton and the Conway Towne Center in Conway - at 7 p.m. today.

Meanwhile, The Met: Live in HD will “cinecast” the Metropolitan Opera production of Alexander Borodin’s Prince Igor, at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Breckenridge Village 12 in Little Rock and the Tinseltown in Benton.

ASU Magnolias

The Arkansas State University Theatre will stage Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday and Monday-Wednesday at ASU’s Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro.

Percussion festival

The University of Central Arkansas will host the annual Percussion Festival, 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday in Snow Fine Arts Center at UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

High school ensembles will kick off the performance schedule at noon, followed by clinics at 1. A grand finale concert featuring guest clinicians and the UCA Percussion Ensemble will round out the day.

Comedy ‘voice’

Reba McEntire, Bobby Bare and Loretta Lynn will perform, with singer and comedian Mark Lowry as host, for the fourth annual Johnny Cash Music Festival, 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at Arkansas State University’s Convocation Center, 217 Olympic Ave., Jonesboro.
