NEWS IN BRIEF

Deltic earnings fall 4.1% in 4th quarter

El Dorado-based Deltic Timber Corp. on Wednesday reported fourth quarter net income of $2.3 million, or 18 cents a share, down 4.1 percent compared with the same quarter a year ago.

In a statement released after the markets closed, Deltic attributed the decrease to lower pulpwood harvests and land sales.

The company reported net sales in the quarter of $48.3 million, compared with $36.7 million a year ago.

For all of 2013, the company reported a net income of $26.2 million, or $2.06 per share, compared with $9.2 million, or 73 cents per share, in 2012.

Ray C. Dillon, Deltic’s president and chief operating officer, said the company’s completion of its acquisition of Del-Tin Fiber combined with its strategy for managing all aspects of its timber operation led to record financial performances in 2013.

Deltic will hold its conference call at 10 a.m. today to discuss the quarter’s results. Those interested in listening to the call can dial (866) 953-6856 and use the pass code 39325929. The call can also be accessed online at the investor relations section of Deltic’s website, deltic.com.
