Search at Red River for missing woman resumes

FULTON — Search crews returned to the Red River in southwest Arkansas to search for the body of an Ashdown woman who's been missing since she either jumped or fell from an Interstate 30 bridge into the river near Fulton.

Sheriff's officials told KSLA that a cadaver dog indicated a spot in the river Wednesday where there may be human remains. Divers, the Miller County sheriff's office and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were searching the area for the body of 43-year-old Janis Burris Northcross.

Northcross and a man were standing on the icy bridge after a minor accident Feb. 8 when an 18-wheeler jackknifed and skidded toward them. Both wound up in the river, but the man was able to make it to shore and survived.
