Second thoughts

Johnny Manziel (left) apparently impressed Barry Switzer with his play, but not his attitude. “He’s a privileged kid, he’s embarrassed himself, he’s embarrassed his teammates, his program,” the former Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys coach said.

Chargers flip-flops sour offer

A homeless man in Santa Rosa, Calif., which is located 55 miles north of San Francisco, was willing to take some help from a well-meaning stranger, that was until he found out he was a San Diego Chargers fan.

A local restaurateur found a homeless man on the stoop of his restaurant and tried to be of help, according to the Press Democrat.

Stephen Felando fed the stranger and found out he was walking in nothing but socks, offering the man his shoes. There was just one problem - they were San Diego Chargers flip-flops.

Then his head jerked a little.

He said, “Are these Chargers flip flops?”

Felando nodded and noted that though he moved away from San Diego years ago he’s still a fan.

With that, the wanderer handed him back the flip-flops.

“I’m good,” he said. And he walked off in his stocking feet.

Sorry Chargers. You may have made the playoffs in 2013, but you haven’t won over the people yet.

No fan of Manziel

Barry Switzer (Crossett) isn’t a big fan of Johnny Manziel and the former University of Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys coach went on WGNU-AM, 920, in St. Louis on Wednesday morning to make that very clear.

“I’m going to tell you. I said Johnny Manziel is … I don’t like his antics. I think he’s an arrogant little p***k,” Switzer said. “I’ve said that and I’ll say it again. He’s a privileged kid, he’s embarrassed himself, he’s embarrassed his teammates, his program. He’s embarrassed his coach. And they’ll all have to defend him because they have to coach. I know that. I spent 40 years in the game so I know how it works.”

Personal shots aside, Switzer, who won three national titles with Oklahoma and a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys, still thinks Johnny Football is a good quarterback.

“He’s the best I’ve seen. I’ve never seen a quarterback in college football take control of a game like he does and put up the numbers he does. It’s fantastic what he’s done against good competition. Game after game after game, the numbers he puts up are staggering,” Switzer said.

Brown and out

A report surfaced last week that the Cleveland Browns proposed a trade with the San Francisco 49ers that would have brought 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh to Cleveland.

Wrote Reggie Hayes of The News-Sentinel of Fort Wayne, Ind.: “Harbaugh reportedly vetoed the idea when he found out that his new roster would, indeed, include Browns players.”

Bad advice

Johan Santana threw for seven major league scouts in Florida, and topped out at 81 mph.

Wrote Janice Hough of leftcoastsportsbabe.com: “Maybe it wasn’t a great idea to get coaching on his fastball from Jamie Moyer ?”
