Little Rock man fatally shot

Little Rock police are investigating after a fatal shooting early Friday morning at the Royal Oaks Apartments.

Officers responding about 12:14 a.m. found Cedric Pennington, 44, of Little Rock on the ground, lying next to the driver's side door of a 1999 Lexus 300, along the north side of Building B at the complex at 8621 Baseline Road, according to a Little Rock Police Department report.

Pennington appeared to have been shot on his left side, the report states. It didn't elaborate on what part of his body was hit.

A witness told police said she saw two black men approach the Lexus from behind and that one man, who was wearing a black jacket with its hood up, was carrying a handgun, according to the report. The witness went back inside her apartment, heard one gunshot, and looked outside to see the two men running away, police said.

Both men were described as a dark-complected black men, ages 19 or 20, about 5 foot 7 and about 120 pounds, wearing black jackets and black pants. No suspects are in custody, Lt. Sidney Allen said Friday morning.

Pennington was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, where he died, police said.
