LR woman enters governor's race

By The Associated Press

This article was published February 28, 2014 at 4:30 p.m.

A substitute teacher from Little Rock has filed to run for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, setting up an unexpected primary contest for Arkansas' top office.

Lynette Bryant filed paperwork Friday at the state Capitol to run for governor, becoming the second Democrat to officially enter the race. Former U.S. Rep. Mike Ross announced his bid for the Democratic nomination last year and filed to run on Wednesday.

Bryant has run unsuccessfully for the Little Rock city board in 2010 and 2012. This is her first bid for statewide office.

Former U.S. Rep. Asa Hutchinson and Little Rock businessman Curtis Coleman filed Monday to run for the Republican nomination. Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe is term limited and unable to run in November.

Good! I am not in favor of what the Dem.'s are doing with this one candidate per position... Too much control placed in the hands of too few. Let voters decide and not the party 'so called leaders'.
