Significant icing possible in north Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for counties in north Arkansas for Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.

Forecasters say the winter storm will deliver "significant winter precipitation" to the northern one-third of Arkansas. The weather service expects a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow in the region.

The weather service said areas could see 1 to 2 inches of sleet and snow, while some places could see ice accumulations of 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch.

Forecasters said it's not yet clear how far south the wintry precipitation will extend. Areas south of the front could see heavy rain and thunderstorms with up to 2 inches of rain possible in central and southeast Arkansas.
