Man killed when car goes into water in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Jersey City police say a man was killed when the vehicle he apparently was driving plunged into the water near Liberty State Park.

The 22-year-old city man's body was recovered shortly after authorities responded to the scene of the crash, which was reported around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim's name has not been released, and authorities were trying to determine if the man was by himself when the crash occurred. Witnesses told police they saw others in the vehicle, but those reports remain under investigation.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
