Little Rock Marathon officials unveiled Thursday afternoon the medal designs for this year's races, revealing that finishers will take home superhero-themed medals and ribbons.
The red, black and yellow-colored medals will feature comic book-style lettering and graphics, with “EPIC” written in similar script on the front, according to a news release from marathon officials.
The medals will vary according to the distance run, with full marathon finishers receiving an 8 1/2-inch version that weighs more than 2 1/2 pounds and comes with a custom ribbon. Half-marathon runners will get 4-inch version of the medal that weighs about 14 ounces, marathon officials said.
The 12th annual marathon, which will take place March 2, is the culmination of a weekend of festivities that include a 5K a children's race.
Officials said the 15,000 race spots available are expected to sell out.
