Little Rock police are looking for a man they say tried to rob a 60-year-old woman Saturday night but then fled after the woman's pit bull began barking at him.

The attempted robbery occurred about 8:29 p.m. while Little Rock resident Millie Fiser was walking her dog on West 18th Street, according to a Little Rock Police Department report.

Fiser told officers that she noticed some trash on the street's corner and went to go throw it away. While she was picking up the trash, a man pushed her from behind and demanded that she give him all of her money, the report states.

She told the man she didn't have any money, her dog began barking at him and he fled east, according to the report.

Fiser suffered minor bruises on her right elbow and right palm, according to the report.

Police describe her attacker as a black man standing about 5-foot-11. He was last seen wearing all black clothing.

Even for those of us who’ve never functioned in the upper echelons of a newspaper enterprise, it’s easy to see how difficult some decisions must be to make. For example, instead of being presented on Police Beat, should the reporting of the general run of central urban Pulaski County crimes be on the same page as the rest of the comics. Should it be on a page reserved for the mentally, pathetically inadequate? Should it be on a page featuring the antics of exotic zoo animals? If you find these questions a bit strange, you probably haven’t been closely reading the hilariously inexplicable behavior of those who prowl this vast cosmopolitan area looking for someone to assault, to rob, to carjack, to burglarize, to shoot, to stab. These guys are barely smart enough to spot a potential victim and rarely smart enough to avoid arrest before the next Police Beat report. With all due respect to the loss and suffering of the victims, I mean, anyone who can read what’s happening in this slapstick criminal world of Central Arkansas without breaking into a belly laugh just has no soul. Do you think that if we had a public policy that would allow folks of low IQ and irresistible criminal urges to simply bypass the criminal act itself as well as the court due process and go straight to the Big Fools House, part of our problem might be solved? Just saying…trying to be creative.
