Wife threatened over 'paying too much for takeout,' report says

A North Little Rock man was jailed Sunday after he yelled at his wife over how much she paid for takeout food and then threatened to hurt her, police said.

Rickey Shields, 59, remained in the Pulaski County jail early Monday afternoon with bail not yet set. He is charged with third-degree assault on a family or household member.

According to a North Little Rock police report, officers responded before 7:30 p.m. to the Shields' home in the 1100 block of Nicole Drive. There, Shields' wife told investigators that Shields "began yelling at her for paying too much for takeout food," the report said.

Police say Shields threatened to beat his wife and "then came at her with his hands raised."

"Ms. Shields stated that Mr. Shields had grabbed her forcibly a few weeks ago and she was afraid he was going to hurt her," police wrote in the report.

Rickey Shields told investigators nothing happened, according to the report. While officers were there, he told his wife "you're gonna get it back," the report added.

A preliminary court date is set for Tuesday.
