One found dead in LR apartment fire

Emergency officials found one person dead while responding to a fire at a Little Rock apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters responded shortly after 4 p.m. to South Oaks Apartments, 3401 Fair Park Blvd., where they found a woman dead in the bedroom of a first-floor unit, according to Little Rock Fire Department officials at the scene.

Little Rock Fire Department Capt. Jason Weaver said the fire appears to have originated in the unit where the woman was found. The blaze then spread up the north side of the building to two second-floor units, one of which was vacant. Two occupants in the other second-floor unit had evacuated the building by the time firefighters arrived on scene, Weaver said. No other injuries were reported.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire in about 10 minutes, Weaver said, but the flames and smoke caused significant damage to the building.

Neither the victim's identity nor her cause of death were immediately available Tuesday evening. Little Rock police are investigating both the woman's death and the cause of the fire.
