Dodd panel
The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, will host a panel discussion titled “David O. Dodd: The Man, the Myth and the Window,” commemorating the 150th anniversary of the arrest, trial and execution as a Confederate spy of the 17-year-old during the Civil War, 1-4 p.m. Saturday.
Speakers will be Bryant history teacher Anthony Rushing; Carl Moneyhon, a history professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock; and museum director Stephan McAteer. Heifer Hour
“Not a Cup But a Cow” is the theme for this month’s “Heifer Hour,” 11 a.m. Saturday at Heifer Village, 1 World Ave., Little Rock. The event includes a lesson on how giving families the gift of a cow can change their lives forever; a color-your-own “Not a Cup But a Cow” cup and a “How Much Milk?” game involving other milk-giving animals, all aimed at children in grades K-5. Concerto competition
Twenty-three young pianists, singers and string, woodwind and brass players will be vying for the chance to perform with the Delta Symphony Orchestra in the 24th annual Young Artist Concerto Competition, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday in Riceland Hall of Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro. Admission is free. Two grand prize winners will each receive $500 and will solo with the orchestra in a Feb. 16 concert. Fiddler auditions
Argenta Community Theater, 405 Main St., North Little Rock, will hold auditions for its summer 2014 production of Fiddler on the Roof (music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, book by Joseph Stein, based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem), 6-9 p.m. today and 1-4 p.m. Saturday.
Take a theatrical resume and head shot (if you have one) and prepare 16 bars of a song from the show (preferred) or in the style of the show; the audition will also involve cold readings from the script and a dance call.

Brave auditions

Weekend drama
Two women redefine their family in the wake of their son’s death in Iraq in blu by Virginia Grise, opening Friday with shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday through Jan. 25 at The Weekend Theater, West Seventh and Chester streets.

Loyd remembered
A benefit to honor the late singer-songwriter, author and storyteller Peg Roach Loyd will take place from 2 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Hibernia Irish Tavern, 9700 Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock, (501) 246-4340.
The event will feature music and dance, a raffle and silent auction. Performers include the O’Donovan School of Irish Dance, Joe Ott and Jeff Jenkins, the McCafferty School of Irish Dance, Arkansas Celtic Music Society Irish Session Musicians, Gene Reid and James Kersey, Dead Celt Society, Conway Firefighters Pipe Band, Carnie Barkers, Mark Stone, Midwest Caravan and Secondhand Cannon.
There is no admission, but donations will be accepted to help Loyd’s family with medical bills and expenses. She died Jan. 6 of cancer.
