Attorney for ex-Tulsa officer seeks rehearing

TULSA — An attorney for a former Tulsa police officer serving a 10-year prison sentence for stealing money during a drug bust has indicated in a court filing that he'll petition an appeals court for a rehearing.

William Lunn, the defense attorney for convicted ex-Cpl. Harold Wells, wrote in a document filed Sunday that he wants the full 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear the appeal.

Earlier this month, a three-judge panel of the Denver-based appeals court upheld Wells' initial conviction in Tulsa federal court.

Wells was sentenced in 2011 after a two-year corruption probe resulted in 11 officers being charged or named as unindicted co-conspirators.

The scandal tarnished the reputation of the city's police department. Wells, a 35-year police veteran, is serving his term in a Minnesota prison.
